KAKINADA: Doctors of the Government General Hospital (GGH) here have successfully conducted endoscopic transsphenoidal pituitary tumor excision on a 30-year-old woman suffering from brain tumour. The surgery conducted on M. Lakshmi of Gonchala village of Samalkot on June 14 and the patient was about to get discharged from the hospital. At a press conference here on Thursday, Superintendent of the GGH M.B.R. Sarma congratulated the head of neurosurgery Satya Varaprasad and head of the ENT department G.S.N. Murthy and other members of the team for successfully conducting the rare surgery for the first in the GGH. The doctors said that in normal course it would take about four hours to conduct the complicated surgery by opening the skull of the patient. “But, in this method, we have conducted the surgery in endoscopic method through the nostrils,” they said. Dr. Sarma cautioned the public against frequent complaints of headache, vomiting and poor vision, which, he said, could be the symptoms of brain tumor. “Now, the treatment is available in the GGH for free of cost, notwithstanding the Rajiv Arogya Sri card,” he said.
