Congress seeks CID probe into teachers' recruitment

Staff Correspondent

The teachers were recruited in Mysore division

in 1994

An inquiry was held following charges of

irregularities and a report was submitted

Hassan: M.K. Sheshe Gowda, president of the OBC cell of the District Congress Committee, on Thursday alleged that the State Government had not acted on the inquiry report that pointed out irregularities in the recruitment of high school teachers in Mysore division in 1994.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Gowda said the Department of Public Instruction ordered a probe by S.N. Pratima, the then Assistant Director, into allegations of irregularities in the recruitment of 1,324 candidates as high school teachers in 1994. The report was submitted in 2006. Mr. Gowda, who got a copy of the report under the Right to Information Act, said the inquiry found that marks cards of 579 candidates were not available for scrutiny. Among those documents made available, there were many discrepancies. There were differences in the marks recorded in the marks cards issued by universities and the marks entered in the selection list, he said.

The inquiry report recommended disciplinary action against those responsible for the irregularities. However, no action was taken. He urged the Government to order an inquiry by the Criminal Investigation Department.
