AMMAN: India had an overwhelming presence in the Asian junior individual squash championship at Amman, Jordan, as seven players reached the semifinals in various age groups. The success stories came in the boys' under-13, 17 and 19 sections and the girls' under-15 and 19 categories. Making her maiden appearance in the under-19 section, Aparajitha made it to the semifinals with a fine win over higher-ranked (3/4 seed) Ka Yi Lee of Hong Kong in a five setter. Having lost to Lee in the Asian team championship in Sri Lanka, Aparajitha made amends after surviving a slump in form midway through the match. The Indian won 11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 11-5. Joining her in the last four was (3/4 seed) Anaka Alankamony, who beat Ankita Sharma 11-8, 11-7, 11-4. Ranjit Singh (boys' under-13), Adya Advani (girls' under-15), Kush Kumar (boys' under-17), Ramit Tandon and Mahesh Mangaonkar (boys' under-19) also reached the last four stage. Other results (quarterfinals): Boys: Under-19: Mahesh Mangaonkar bt Affeeq Al Ismail (Mal) 13-11, 12-10, 11-5; Ramit Tandon bt Jae Jin Yoo (Korea) 14-12, 11-9, 11-7. Under-17: Kush Kumar bt Deepak Misra 11-3, 10-12, 11-1, 15-13. Under-13: Ranjith Singh bt Hamad Al-Amri (Qatar) 11-1, 11-2, 11-1.
