Govind Prabhu was arrested on charge of assaulting a Mescom contractor MANGALORE: Bantwal Urban Development Authority chairman Govind Prabhu, who was arrested on charge of assaulting a Mescom contractor, was released on bail on Tuesday. Bantwal Rural sub-inspector Mohammed Rafiq said the complaint had been registered by Jagdish Poojary who was a contractor for Mescom. According to Mr. Poojary, he was hit on the head and his wife was pushed around by Mr. Prabhu, Charan, Keshava, and five others on Sunday. Mr. Prabhu was arrested on Tuesday and released on bail that very day, Mr. Rafiq said. Altercation Mr. Rafiq said the cause for the assault according to the complainant was an altercation between himself and chairman of the Coastal Development Authority B. Nagaraja Shetty over the telephone, which the latter was said to have repeated to Govind Prabhu. On learning about this, Mr. Prabhu assaulted Mr. Poojary, according to the complaint. A case had been registered against the accused under Sections 447 (criminal trespass), 448 (house trespass), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), 323 (assault), 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman), and 427 (damages), read with 149 (common intention) of the IPC. Mr. Prabhu was recently in the spotlight when an alleged slap by Assistant Superintendent of Police Amit Singh triggered a late-night gherao at the IPS officer's house on January 31.
