HYDERABAD: Women in modern times are increasingly defined by their multiple roles at workplace and at home. And to be able to balance and justify their multiple responsibilities, they have to look inwards and concentrate on their own health and wellness, said psychologist Dr. Savita Menon. While interacting with members of Jain International Women's Organisation (JIWO), Hyderabad chapter in a health seminar at Apollo Hospitals on Thursday, the clinical health specialist said that women have to get their basics right. “The new age women should concentrate on three basic aspects that include stress, diet and fitness. Striking a right balance between the three is the key to achieve physical and mental well being. All the three are interlinked and impact every aspect of our daily lives,” she said. The psychologist suggested that women should strive hard to avoid fatty food and salt in their diet. “They also must make sure that they include salads and raw fruits in the family menu. This is the simplest way towards a balanced diet,” she said. Heart rate While addressing the JIWO members, Dr. Menon suggested regular checks of blood pressure, heart rate and sugar levels. “If you regularly exercise then there should not be any problem with the heart rate. One should check heart rate regularly because any deviation from normal will make us do exercises,” she said. A simple way to check the condition of the spine and flexibility of the body is to try touching the toes without bending the knees, she said. “It is mandatory for women to take up some physical activity that will burn calories and make them fit,” she said.
