Cabinet berth for Praja Rajyam MLC opposed

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: A group of Congress leaders from Kadapa district on Thursday met Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy strongly opposing any move to induct Praja Rajyam MLC C. Ramachandraiah into the Cabinet.

Their representation came in the background of reports that PR chief K. Chiranjeevi was keen on recommending Mr. Ramachandraiah for the ministerial berth.

Sources said the Congress delegation comprising Kamalapuram MLA G. Veerashiva Reddy and others said his induction in to the Cabinet would not improve the image of the ruling party.

“The rank and file of the Congress is against Mr. Ramachandraiah being made a Minister from Kadapa district.

The delegation included MLCs Shaik Hussain and B.Chengalrayudu, and former MLAs – P. Varadarajulu Reddy and K. Sivananda Reddy.

They reasoned that there was sufficient representation to the influential Balija community from the district with A. Saipratap holding the Union Minister of State portfolio and B. Chengalrayudu being re-nominated to the Council. Similar demands would be voiced by other Congress MLCs, they added. Sources said the Chief Minister said no decision had been taken so far but Congress leaders said their views should be conveyed to the party's central leadership.
