Minister's appeal
Special Correspondent
Bangalore: Union Minister of State for Power K.C. Venugopal on Thursday called on Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa at the latter's chamber and appealed to him to take steps to implement the proposed 400 kV double circuit power transmission line between Kaiga in Karnataka and Kerala, through forests in Kodagu. The people of Kodagu district have been opposing the transmission line on the ground that it would pass through the Dubare forest section in the Madikeri division and Devamachi forests in the Virajpet division. Mr. Venugopal told reporters that “there are some apprehensions in the minds of the people of Kodagu about the transmission line passing through the district.” He urged the Chief Minister to take steps to clear the apprehensions.
