Vikramaditya in lead

KOCHI: Tamil Nadu's top-seeded M.R. Venkatesh defeated Swapnil Dhopade of Railways in the 10th round of the 49th National Challengers chess championship at Aurangabad on Thursday. Dhopade was one of the two overnight leaders and his loss helped teammate Vikramaditya Kulkarni move into sole lead with 8.5 points.

The results (10th round): Aditya Udeshi (Mah, 7) lost to Vikramaditya Kulkarni (Rly, 8.5), M.R. Venkatesh (TN, 7.5) bt Swapnil S. Dhopade (Rly, 7.5), K. Dinesh Sharma (LIC, 7.5) drew with Ram S. Krishnan (TN, 7.5), Padmini Rout (Ori, 7) drew with M. Shyam Sundar (TN, 7), M.S. Thejkumar (Rly, 7) drew with Srinath Narayanan (TN, 7), Ashwin Jayaram (TN, 7) drew with Syed Anwar Shazuli (Rly, 7), Anup Deshmukh (LIC, 6.5) lost to Himanshu Sharma (Hary, 7.5), P. Shyam Nikil (TN, 7.5) bt S. Vikramjit Singh (Rly, 6.5), G.A. Stany (Ktk, 6.5) lost to G. Akash (TN, 7.5), Nimmy George (Ker, 7) drew with P. Karthikeyan (TN, 7), Abhishek Kelkar (Mah, 6.5) lost to Saptarshi Roy (Rly, 7.5), S. Ravi Teja (AP, 6.5) lost to Atanu Lahiri (LIC, 7.5), Rahul Sangma (Del, 7.5) bt S. L. Narayanan (Ker, 6.5), K.
