Follow court order, schools told
Staff Reporter
Tirupur: Superintendent of Police V. Balakrishnan has warned school managements of stringent action if they did not follow the Supreme Court order on ‘Essentials for a school bus' in its letter and spirit.
“We are issuing the premonition to the schools as it was noticed during an inspection conducted by the police on Park Road on Friday that a bus of a private school in the locality was carrying 90 students against the seating capacity of 58,” he told reporters here on Friday.
The SP said that the school was let off with a warning but any repeated offence would be viewed seriously and the vehicles involved would be seized. “On the day, we have seized two autorickshaws for overloading from the same locality in which one of the vehicles was carrying as many as 18 students in it,” he added.
School bus norms
Mr.Balakrishnan said that as per the court directive, students should not be boarded above the seating capacity of the vehicle (ie standing is not allowed).
