KASARAGOD: In the backdrop of public opposition to setting up a coal-based thermal power station at Cheemeni in the district, Union Minister of State for Power K.C. Venugopal has said the government will not thrust such a project in the locality. The proposed thermal power plant would not be forced upon the residents of the locality if there was apprehension about environmental problems, the Minister told reporters here on Friday. The Union government had no intention to execute the project against the wishes of the public, Mr. Venugopal said. Public concern The proposed power project would be executed fully taking into account the public concerns over environment, the Union Minister of State asserted.
