RAMANATHAPURAM: Students of schools and colleges on Friday took out a rally here to create an awareness of the need for eradicating child labour in the district.

Collector V. Arun Roy flagged off the rally at Aranmanai, where a large number of students from different parts of the district had assembled with campaigning materials on the evils of child labour.

They raised slogans against employing children in industries, houses and shops.

The rally went through Vandikara Street, Roman Church, Government Hospital Road and Agraharam Road. The rally members also distributed pamphlets to the people on sending their wards to the schools.

Though employing children would give them short-term benefit, it would ruin the career of the children in the long run.
