Held on graft charge

Namakkal: Vigilance and Anti Corruption police on Friday arrested the Village Administrative Officer of Konnaiyar Village in Tiruchengode Taluk R. Mani (54) and his assistant S. Shankar (40) for graft. It is said that the two asked a bribe of Rs. 1,000 from A. Chandran, a coolie, who sought change in patta for a piece of land he bought in Sathya Nagar.

When he made repeated requests for about six months, the two asked him the money to get the patta, following which he approached VAC police.
