INSIDE BHOPAL:A school girl caught in the rain on Friday. New Delhi: Rain continued to lash several parts of North India on Friday keeping the mercury in check even as humid conditions made life difficult for people. High humidity and above normal temperature in New Delhi left many sweating. The city settled at a maximum temperature of 38.7 degree Celsius, a notch above normal, with humidity at 79 per cent. Widespread rainfall lashed most parts of Punjab and Haryana bringing down the temperature, with humidity levels ranging from 60 per cent to 90 per cent. Hoshiarpur received 45 mm of rain, followed by Chandigarh at 32.4 mm, Gurdaspur at 25 mm, Morni at 14 mm, Kalka and Madhopur at 9 mm. The day temperature in the twin States hovered from one degree above normal to two notches below normal. Hisar braved a high of 41, followed by Rohtak at 38.7 and Amritsar at 38.6. Several parts of Rajasthan received rain, with Chabda recording maximum rainfall of 20 cm since Thursday. Ananta and Deegod recorded 16 cm and 15 cm rain respectively during the period. Many other places in Udaipur, Jaipur, Kota and Ajmer divisions received 1 cm to 10 cm rainfall. The mercury also dipped at most of the places in the desert State, where Sriganganagar was the hottest at 45.1. Several parts of Himachal Pradesh received moderate rain as the south-west monsoon kept its date with the State. Maximum day temperatures remained steady in the hill State with capital Shimla recording a high of 25.4, Una 37.2, Bhuntar 34, Mandi 33.8 and Dharamshala 30.8. — PTI
