NEW DELHI: Raj Kumar Singh on Friday took over as Officer on Special Duty in the Union Home Ministry. He will succeed Gopal Krishna Pillai as Home Secretary, who demits office on June 30.
Mr. Singh, an IAS officer of the 1975 batch from the Bihar cadre, was till now Secretary, Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence. He has served in Bihar and at the Centre in various capacities. He has served as Home Secretary in the Bihar government and also done a stint as Joint Secretary in the Union Home Ministry. His appointment as Home Secretary was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. He will have a two-year fixed tenure, it was officially stated.
Mr. Pillai, a Kerala cadre IAS officer of the 1972 batch, had taken over as Home Secretary on June 30, 2009.
