MADURAI: Top orthopaedic doctors from the southern States will be in the city to participate at the ‘OASIS ICL – 2011' (Orthopaedic Association of South Indian States – Instructional Course Lecture) to be held e on Sunday. Addressing a press conference, organising chairman A. Rajamani and secretary S. Shanmuganathan said here on Friday that the day-long meet would have 18 experts addressing the delegates on various core issues. The theme of the meet is ‘bone and joint infections.' It would be a good opportunity for the 150 delegates to share and learn about latest techniques and practices in orthopaedics. With more and more diabetes cases being reported, patients, irrespective of the age group, had to be all the more cautious when they suffer from any injury. Further, infections are posing a threat to doctors. The two doctors were of the view that there was a steep rise in trauma cases at the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) among others. “It is found that most of the road accident victims were in an inebriated state. Apart from drunken driving cases, rash and negligent driving also contributed to rise in number of accidents. By conducting regular awareness meetings by engaging road users and officials from the police and judiciary would help in prevention of road accidents. The orthopaedic ward at the GRH was not only equipped on a par with private hospitals but had qualified doctors to handle emergency cases round-the-clock. Once the trauma care wing started functioning at the GRH annexe near Anna Bus Stand, doctors could handle more number of cases.
