Samiti protests ‘oath-taking'

Staff Correspondent

Udupi: The Udupi Zilla Nagarika Seva Samiti staged a protest near the service bus-stand on Friday against the “oath-taking” of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy in Dharmasthala on June 27.

Samiti general secretary Nityananda Volakadu said that Mr. Yeddyurappa and Mr. Kumaraswamy were fooling people .

It was a tragedy that the people had elected such leaders who, instead of trying to solve the real issues affecting the poor, were indulging in cheap politics.

Mr. Yeddyurappa and Mr. Kumaraswamy should not use Sri Manjunatha Temple to score political points.

Earlier, members of the samiti went on a procession from the taluk office to the service bus stand, and collected a “tappu kanike” (money collected for penance) of Rs. 873 from the public, which would be offered to the “hundi” in Dharmasthala.
