Jewellery shop burgled in Ulsoor

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Gold and silver worth about Rs. 30 lakh were stolen from a jewellery store on Bazaar Street in Ulsoor in the early hours of Friday.

The burglars gained entry by drilling the roof of Pooja Jewellers. The shop had no security guards and no CCTV cameras. Its proprietor, Jayachandra Jain, told the police he had locked up at 9 p.m. on Thursday. He discovered the burglary when he opened his shop on Friday morning.

Forensic officials have collected fingerprints and other clues.

Held for fraud

Officials attached to the Fraud and Misappropriation Squad of Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested two men for duping people with job offers in various government departments.

The police, who were tipped off, raided a hotel on Racecourse Road on Thursday and arrested Sheikh Abdul Karim Ahmed Hussein (51) of Hosanagar in Shimoga and Nagendra Yalloji Rao (68) of Vijayanagar in Mysore. They recovered forms pertaining to the Karnataka State Public Service Commission (KPSC) from the duo.

Hussein, an economics lecturer at the government pre-university college in Hosanagar, along with Rao, had been duping gullible job aspirants for several years. The police said they used to choose their quarry during various recruitment exams.
