BANGALORE: Salaries that have remained unpaid for the past four months to Sanskrit teachers will be disbursed soon, Minister for Higher Education V.S. Acharya said here on Friday. Speaking to presspersons here after inaugurating the Directorate of Sanskrit Education, he blamed the delay on the process of setting up a separate directorate. “The Government has already released the money,” he added. Scholarships Earlier, he said that Rs. 25 lakh had been set aside for scholarships to those who score highest marks in Sanskrit, and the Sanskrit University was in the process of forming the guidelines. Stating that the setting up of a separate Directorate of Sanskrit Education would help promote the language, he said the number of students taking part in Sanskrit competitions such as quizzes had increased to 16,000 this year compared to around 10,000 last year. “Most of the new additions have come from students from SC/ST communities. This shows that this language is not associated to any particular community.” Many applications Dr. Acharya said there were several applications for new Sanskrit colleges and schools in the State.
