Bangalore: Urging the Government to heed its demands, the Karnataka State PUC Lecturers' Association said it will go on strike starting Saturday. Setting an ultimatum of June 30, the organisation on Friday announced it will boycott the evaluation of upcoming examination papers, and will wear black to work as a sign of protest. The demands include the removal of disparity in salaries, removal of lecturers hired on contract, increase in remuneration per examination paper evaluated and promotions for deserving teachers, amongst others. “In early April about 30,000 teachers from across the State had undertaken a four-day strike,” said Thimmaiah Purle, Association President. “The Chief Minister had said then that a report would be out in 30 days, and that the Government would act on that. We've waited for two months and the report has still not come,” he said. Met with Ministers On Thursday the association had met Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, State Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri and other legislators at the Vidhana Soudha to ask them about the status of the report. Unhappy over the response, the association had decided to call this strike, said Mr. Purle.
