THE BLUES:Students, who could wear casuals thrice a week, now have to wear formals every day.
BANGALORE: The decision to ban denim trousers proved costly for the management of B-school, Community Institute of Management Studies (CIMS), Jayanagar, as students boycotted classes on Friday, protesting against the imposition of the dress code.
The students, who are expected to wear uniforms n three days, were irked by the curbing of their sartorial freedom to wear their favourite staple on the remaining days.
In addition, some students who had gone to meet the college secretary, Chikkanna, on Thursday to seek a rollback of the dress code were allegedly physically attacked, triggering off the demonstration.
S. Prasad, Students Federation of India (SFI), Bangalore district committee president, who also took part in the protest, said the dress code was wholly unscientific. “The students are now expected to wear formals throughout the week, along with formal shoes. There are specifications even for the formal attire, as they cannot wear checks and some other prints,” he said. He added that four students were bashed up by outsiders called in by the management, and two students were injured badly.
“They have called for a staff meeting tomorrow, and a decision is expected to be taken. But the students will settle for nothing less than withdrawal of the dress code,” said Mr. Prasad.
He said the police had promised that action would be taken against the goons who attacked the students, though no case has been registered.
