COIMBATORE: Revenue officials acting on a tip off in two different incidents seized 250 kg of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice along the Tamil Nadu–Kerala border and 400 litres of kerosene from a locality on Thomas Street near Ther Mutti in the city on Friday. A team conducted vehicle check at Meenakshipuram near Pollachi on the Palakkad Road, and intercepted a luxury maxi-cab vehicle worth Rs 12 lakhs carrying 250 kg of PDS rice. The vehicle was seized and Vinoth (25) of Kerala was arrested. In another incident, the teams raided the premises in Coimbatore City and seized 400 litres of Kerosene and arrested S. Kumar (40). Detained City Police Commissioner Amaresh Pujari on Thursday ordered the detention of E. Habib Rehman alias Habi (33) of Ukkadam Bypass Road in city under the Prevention of Black Marketing and Maintenance of Supply of Essential Commodities Act of 1980. The said accused was arrested on June 11 when he was about to smuggle 20 bags of PDS rice to Kerala. Twenty bags of rice and a car were seized from his possession. With the accused proving to be a habitual offender, a decision was taken to detain him.
