TIRUCHI: Former Union Telecom Minister A. Raja's wife and his elder brother appeared before the Income Tax office here on Friday after they were summoned by the IT Department for an enquiry.

Sources said Parameswari, wife of Raja, who has been arrested and lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with the 2G spectrum scam, and his elder brother A. Ramachandran were enquired by a senior officer of the IT Department in the rank of a Deputy Director for about three hours.

It is said that the enquiry was to get certain clarifications regarding income tax returns they had filed and their source of income. Ms. Parameswari and Mr. Ramachandran were accompanied by a team of auditors during the IT enquiry.

The CBI, which is probing the 2G spectrum scam, conducted raids on the residences of relatives of Raja in Perambalur and Tiruchi a few months ago, besides raiding the houses of the former Union Minister's aides in Perambalur.
