Special Correspondent

Vijayawada agency to restore statues

Statues are being made again in bronze

Komaram Bhim statue will also be installed

HYDERABAD: The government finalised the tender and selected C. Saibaba Mega Shilpasala at Vijayawada as the agency for re-making 12 damaged statues for installation again on the Tank Bund.

As per the tender conditions, the cost of making the statues has been restricted to Rs 54 lakh. These statues are being made again in bronze as the original ones were damaged or dismantled by agitators during the ‘Million March' organised by the TRS on March 10 as part of its agitation for separate Telangana.

According to M. Kantha Rao, Director, Cultural Affairs, the statues are that of Gurajada, Ballary Raghava, Sir Arthur Cotton, Kandukuri Veeresalingam, Tripuraneni Ramaswamy Chowdary, Mutluri Krishna Rao, Raghupathi Venkataratnam Naidu, Sri Krishnadevaraya, Brahmanaidu, Siddendra Yogi, Annamacharya and Errapragada.

The agency has been asked to make these statues in three months as stipulated in the tender.

He said arrangements were being made to install the statue of Komaram Bhim, the Gond leader who fought against the Nizam for the rights of tribals, on the Tank Bund shortly.
