Need to address energy, water and environmental issues stressed Paper Tech 2011 to focus on energy, environment and water HYDERABAD: The consumption of paper and paperboard will increase to 20 million tonnes by 2020 and 40 million tonnes by 2030 with an annual 8 per cent rate. This was stated by Madhukar Mishra, president, Indian Paper Manufacturers' Association and MD, Star Paper Mills Ltd, while delivering the keynote address at the inaugural session of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) fifth edition of Paper Tech 2011. Referring to the potential, he said there was a need for capacity build-up to meet the emerging demand. However, there were challenges on power and raw materials fronts. There was an excellent opportunity to achieve the growth in a green way. Principal Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department, T.S. Appa Rao, said India had the potential to become world leader in the paper sector. He underlined the need for addressing issues of energy, water and environment and briefed on the incentives provided to the industry by the government. K.S. Kasi Viswanathan, chairman, Paper Tech 2011 and deputy MD, Seshasayee Paper & Boards Ltd, said the focus areas of the Paper Tech 2011 would be on energy, environment and water. He stressed the need for knowledge-sharing and learning about the technologies adopted by different mills. D.V. Manohar, former Chairman, CII Andhra Pradesh briefed the participants on the activities of CII-Godrej Green Business Centre.
