Madurai Mayor's bail plea hearing adjourned to Monday

MADURAI: The Madras High Court Bench here on Friday adjourned to Monday the hearing on an anticipatory bail application filed by Madurai Mayor Thenmozhi Gopinathan in a criminal case registered against her under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption. Justice R.S. Ramanathan adjourned the matter on the request of the petitioner's counsel.

The Mayor was accused of failing to take action against an alleged encroacher of a Corporation property behind a community hall at Mathichiyam here. The case was registered against her on the basis of a direction given by the Chief Judicial Magistrate.
