‘Reading helps mould worthy citizens'

Reward: Saji Chacko, district panchayat member, presenting a shawl to M.S. Leelamma who won national and State awards for best teacher at a meeting held as part of Reading Week observance at St. Behenan's HSS at Vennikkulam on Saturday.

PATHANAMTHITTA: Reading plays a major role in moulding the young generation as worthy citizens, Babu George, district panchayat president, said here on Saturday.

Mr. George was inaugurating the district-level valedictory of the annual Reading Week at Vennikkulam, near Thiruvalla, on Saturday. Pazhakulam Madhu, Chairman of Standing Committee on Education of the panchayat, presented prizes to the winners in literary contests for schoolchildren in connection with the Reading Week.

Saji Chacko, district panchayat member, presented a shawl to M.S. Leelamma, who has won national- and State-level awards for best teacher. Another national- and State-level award-winning teacher, S. Leelamma, was felicitated by Annapoorna Devi, district panchayat member.

Short films made by the Information and Public Relations Department were screened.

The Reading Week is observed by the Information and Public Relations Department, the district administration, and the Education Department.
