PUDUCHERRY: The Confederation of Puducherry Government Employees' Associations on Saturday demanded that the government fill 6,000 vacancies in its various departments immediately through the employment exchange and stop recruitment of contract labourers through the “back door.” According to a statement, it said that associations protesting for contract labourers who were recently removed from government departments and various Public Sector Undertakings was “not the right thing to do” as their appointment itself was against law and court rulings. The confederation said that rather than appointing such temporary employees through the back door, the government should find a way to provide employment for over 1.5 lakh people who have registered in the employment exchange and fill all the vacancies.
