Saving lives: Volunteers donating blood at the camp organised at V.V.N.K.M. Senior Secondary School in Vellore on Saturday. VELLORE: Several volunteers, including parents of children studying in V.V.N.K.M. Senior Secondary School donated blood at a blood donation camp held as part of the 100th birth anniversary celebration of N. Krishnaswamy Mudaliar, founder of the NKM group of educational institutions, organised by V.V.N.K.M. Senior Secondary School and V.N.K.M. Trust School at the senior secondary school here on Saturday. V. Padumanar, writer and Rotarian, who was one of the chief guests, said that the life of Krishnaswamy Mudaliar (NKM) was an example of human achievements. Most people who live in the world are not remembered after their death as their life would be marked by nothing except the events of their birth and death. Only those who make achievements like NKM are remembered long after their death. Mr. Padumanar released a souvenir and handed over leave encashment amount to 26 teachers and non-teaching employees of V.V.N.K.M. Senior Secondary School, including two teachers Usharani and Sasirekha and a non-teaching employee Durgadevi who had put in 100 per cent attendance. A.P. Shanmugam, proprietor of A.S.A. Bakery, Vellore, and T. Sivakumar, school correspondent, presented cash prizes to 30 students, who got 10.10 points (A + grade) in their Standard X public examinations, out of 79 students who appeared for the examinations. Mr. Sivakumar said that out of these 30 students, eight students, who were continuing their senior secondary course in the same school, were being given free education by the school management. Mr. Shanmugam said he has donated blood 32 times. He appealed to the students to take a vow to donate blood at least once in their lifetime. The blood that is taken from the body gets replenished fast, he said. Thulasi Mani, advocate, and Seema, Senior Registrar, Christian Medical College, were present. M. Sree Latha, Principal, V.V.N.K.M. Senior Secondary School, welcomed the gathering. R.G. Sujatha, headmistress of the school, proposed a vote of thanks. The blood given by the volunteers was donated to the blood bank of CMC Hospital.
