THANJAVUR: A maternity block with neo-natal care and intensive care units will be constructed at a cost of Rs.6.82 crore at Rajah Mirasudhar Government Hospital at Thanjavur, said R.Vaidyalingam, Minister for Housing and Urban Development here on Saturday. Inaugurating a mass cleaning programme at the hospital, the Minister said that the block will be of international standards and all facilities for the child and mother care would be provided. Mass cleaning The Minister said that the mass cleaning operation in which 420 sanitary workers of the municipality are involved was aimed at keeping the hospital clean. Describing the hospital as one of the oldest and traditional hospitals gifted by the Kings of Thanjavur, it had come a long way serving people. K.Baskaran, district Collector, said that with the efforts taken by the Minister, a mass cleaning is done in the hospital. Dr.S.Singaravelu, Paediatrics Department, said that the hospital housed the Paediatrics, Ophthalmology and Maternity department of Thanjavur Medical College. MLAs M.Rangaswamy, M.Rethinaswamy; C.Suresh Kumar, District Revenue Officer; V. Sathappan, Deputy Superintendent of Rajah Mirasudhar Government Hospital; Kalaiselvan, Executive Engineer, PWD (buildings); Kalimuthu, Municipal Commissioner; Municipal Councillors Rajswaran and Muthusamy; participated in the mass cleaning programme. Fifteen Autos, one bulldozer, eight lorries were used to remove the garbage.
