After a long wait:The Aasare houses were built near the flood-affected Umalipannur village in Manvi taluk of Raichur district. Umalipannur (Raichur district): Venkamma Ramdas, to whom a possession certificate was issued at a function held in Umalipannur village of Maniv taluk on Saturday, was happy as she got a house near her village. Ms. Ramdas is from one among the 200 flood-affected families from the village, who got houses as per the Aasare scheme, 31 months after the floods. Siddalinga Swamy of Siddaganga Math, Tumkur, handed over the houses to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. In his speech, the seer said the math had spent Rs. 3.25 crore to construct the houses. In fact, the work was delayed by a few months as contractors were not ready to undertake the work. In his inaugural speech, the Chief Minister said that the Government had completed construction of about 35,000 Aasare houses as against the target of 59,253 in all the flood-hit villages. The work on the remaining houses would be completed in the next two months. He said that the Government would construct schools and hospitals in all the Aasare colonies. The Chief Minister would also stay for one day at the Aasare colony. S. Pakkiarappa, MP, Raja Rayappa Naik and Hamapaiaha Naik, MLAs, Halappa Achar, MLC, V. Anbukkumar, Deputy Commissioner, M.G. Vijayakumar, chief executive officer at the zilla panchayat, and N. Shashikumar, Superintendent of Police, were present.
