Newspaper agents, vendors screened at medical camp

TIRUNELVELI: As many as 121 newspaper agents and vendors were screened at a medical camp organised by The Hindu and Annai Velankannai Nursing Home here on Saturday.

The free medical camp, organised with the objective of providing a comprehensive health report on physical condition of newspaper agents and vendors, was sponsored by Annai Velankanni Nursing Home, Murugankurichi here.

Handing over the health reports to the agents and vendors, Collector S. Natarajan lauded the initiative of The Hindu for taking care of an important workforce.

“I appreciate The Hindu that enriched me in several aspects right from my student days. You sacrifice your sleep every day to bring the newspaper to our doorstep as early as possible. So you should know about your physical condition and hence this free medical camp is a great opportunity for you to take stock of your health conditions,” Mr. Natarajan said.

While appealing to the participants to give up the habits of alcoholism and smoking at least for the welfare of their families, Mr. Natarajan urged the vendors to use bicycles instead of motorcycles as cycling itself was a good exercise.

Makes an appeal

The Collector appealed to The Hindu to conduct special coaching classes in schools and colleges to improve communication skills of students in English.

Managing Director, Annai Velankanni Nursing Home, R. Authilingom, spoke. A team of doctors comprising orthopaedic surgeon A. Francis Roy, dentist Dr. Divya and others screened the participants. Paediatrician Mohamed Thambi, gynaecologists Rajam Authilingom and Gigi, ophthalmologist Ramakrishnan of Aravind Eye Hospital, Tirunelveli, paediatric surgeon Abubuckar Thambi, Vani Roy and Bhanumathi Antony Raj participated.
