Surveillance cameras to be fitted on car streets

Collector reviews arrangements for car festival in Tirunelveli

TIRUNELVELI: Surveillance cameras are to be fitted on all the four car streets around Sri Nellaiyappar Gandhimathi Ambal Temple in view of the Aani car festival to be held on July 12.

Chairing a meeting at the Collectorate on Friday to review the preparations for the car festival, Collector S. Natarajan said that the police must make foolproof security arrangements for the annual festival while the corporation authorities should give facelift to the car streets and set up drinking water fountains along the car path.

Tamil Nadu Electricity Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) should ensure uninterrupted power supply around the temple during the car festival and the transport department operate adequate number of special buses from all parts of Tirunelveli to the district headquarters. “Standby generators should be kept ready around the temple and surveillance cameras should be fitted at vantage points of the car streets to monitor every movement of the public,” Mr. Natarajan said.

Corporation Commissioner N. Subbaiyan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, L. Marsden Leo, District Revenue Officer P. Ramanasaraswathi and officials from the Departments of Revenue, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment, Public Works, Highways, Public Health, Fire and Rescue Services and TANGEDCO participated in the meeting.
