Stage set for an interesting finish

Venkatesh — in the lead at the end of penultimate round on Saturday, the 49th National Challengers chess championship is set for an interesting finish on Sunday at Aurangabad.

Railway's Shashikanth Kutwal, seeded 46th, shocked Tamil Nadu's ninth seed V. Saravanan in one of the day's big upsets.

The results (12th round): Himanshu Sharma (9 pts) drew with P. Shyam Nikhil (9), Vikramaditya Kulkarni (9) drew with P. Karthikeyan (8.5).

M.R. Venkatesh (9) bt Diptayan Ghosh (8), M.S. Thejkumar (8.5) drew with Swapnil S. Dhopade (8.5), K. Dinesh Sharma (8.5) drew with Suvrajit Saha (8.5).
