BIDAR: Residents of the Chillargi village have complained that the bridge over the Manjra river that connects Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh has developed cracks within one year of its inauguration in August 2010. “The bridge has developed cracks on the Andhra Pradesh side. This poses a threat to commuters,” Chillargi Gram Panchayat president Srinivas Reddy said in a memorandum to the Government. He has demanded immediate repairs and proper maintenance to ensure that the bridge remains safe in future. The bridge connects around 25 villages in Bidar with villages in Narayankhed taluk in Andhra Pradesh. The Chillargi bridge was first thought of in 1978, when the Andhra Pradesh Government built a reservoir at Singur in Medak district.
