The demonstrators raised slogans condemning the Centre for raising the prices and demanding the immediate withdrawal of raised prices. ‘Vanta varpu' The TDP, the CPI(M) and its sister organization AIDWA held a joint programme of cooking (‘vanta varpu') with firewood since LPG has become costly, and also displayed empty gas cylinders near the Nalgonda bus-stand. Supporting oil firms Sangareddy Staff Reporter writes: Demanding that the government rollback the increased prices of diesel, kerosene, and gas, the district unit of the CPI(M) held a dharna at the district headquarters on Saturday. Earlier a rally was held in the town. Addressing a gathering, CPI(M) district committee member B. Mallesham alleged that the government has been increasing the burden on the common man while extending support to oil companies. He said the governments have been increasing their revenues in the name of hike in price of petroleum products. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders demanded that the government roll back the prices immediately. Similarly, leaders of the YSR Congress party had also held protest over the issue at Pothireddypally chowrasta. ‘Rasta roko' Adilabad Staff Reporter writes: Opposition parties in Adilabad on Saturday staged protests demanding that the Union government roll back the hike in fuel prices immediately. They were unanimous in spelling out that the increase will have an impact on the poor sections in society. While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a rasta roko at the Dasnapur river bridge, the CPI (ML) (New Democracy) burnt the effigy of the Union government. The Telugu Desam Party cadres owing allegiance to rebellious MLA Jogu Ramanna staged protests by cooking on ovens using wood for fuel and pulling a car with ropes.
