‘Bring back black money in foreign banks'

Chief Minister distributes Aasare houses in Raichur

‘People should support civil

society activists'

Umanlipannur (Raichur district): Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has said that the Centre should make serious efforts to bring back black money from foreign banks to improve the economy of the country.

Speaking after inaugurating a function to distribute Aasare houses to beneficiaries at Umalipannur village in Manvi taluk of Raichur district, he said the Centre should cooperate with civil society activists in drafting the Lokpal Bill. People should come out in numbers and support these activists, he said.

Alleging that the Centre had no interest in rural development, the Chief Minister said the country was marching backward with respect to development of rural areas. Its failure in improving the rural employment rate had forced the rural masses to migrate to cities in search of employment.

Criticising the Centre for its “non-cooperative approach” in improving the power scenario in the State, he said the State Government had planned to launch several thermal power projects in the State but most of them had been stalled as the Centre did not allocate enough coal needed for the purpose.

This has forced the State to invest heavily in purchasing power to bridge the gap between the generation and the demand. In the past one year, the State had invested about Rs. 4,000 crore towards the import of power, he said.

Criticising the Opposition parties in the State for attacking the BJP Government, he said there was no doubt he would continue as Chief Minister for full term.
