Film library, screening facilities sought

Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: The Rasmi Film Society here celebrated its 36th anniversary on Saturday. A meeting held in this connection passed a resolution seeking to ‘save Malayalam cinema from the clutches of fans associations.'

The rivalry of such groups had turned them into ‘goonda' gangs, the meeting noted.

Another resolution sought the setting up of a film library at the District Information Office here.

The organisation called upon the government to set up a multiplex and Kairali-Sree theatres in the district. Permission should be granted to use municipal institutions to screen films, a press note said.

Mr. Rajanbabu and Mr. Vijayan were re-elected president and secretary respectively. G.K. Ram Mohan and V.M. Manoj were elected vice-presidents.

The Film Society members sent postcards to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh protesting against the move to close down nearly 10,000 rural post offices in the country.
