Nalgonda
Hopeful:A worried farmer of Mushampalli village in Nalgonda district. NALGONDA: Following the disruption in the monsoon, farmers are waiting with the hope that there won't be much delay in the resumption of the monsoon. Most of them across the district have got their fields ready, although the sowing in the kharif has been delayed. An official of the Agriculture Department told The Hindu on Saturday that if rains fail till July 15 or the second week, a contingency plan to revise the crop pattern as suitable in the changed weather conditions, would be prepared. He said only cotton has been sown in 2,606 hectares, mostly in Alair division, as against 6,542 hectares last year, and jawar. The mandals where cotton seeds have sown are Gundala, Mothkur, Atmakur M, Alair, Yadagirigutta, Turkapalli and Rajapet. According to the official, the total sowing area of all crops covered last year was 487,762 hectares. In the current kharif sowing in 4.90-95 hectares is expected, provided there is no further delay in the monsoon.
