Budget shows income and expenditure of Rs.76.25 crore Management college proposed KOTTAYAM: The annual budget of the Nair Service Society (NSS) for the 2011-12 shows an income and expenditure of Rs.76.25 crore. The budget speech, 28th in a row, made by P.K. Narayana Panicker as general secretary, was completed by G. Sukumaran Nair. The budget envisages a new rest house for pilgrims at Guruvayur, building to house the proposed Sreepadmanabha Tantra Vidyapith, and a new working women's hostel at Attingal. An amount of Rs.5 crore has been earmarked for the purpose. It provides for Rs.2 crore to be spent as medical aid for the economically backward members of the community. NSS, one of the largest corporate managements in the aided sector, would commence work on the proposed management college in Thrivuvananthapuram. A civil services academy is in the pipeline and an amount of Rs.2 crore has been earmarked for the purpose. The budget, which provides for starting new Ayurvedic hospitals at Kummanur and Ochira, has earmarked Rs.7.83 crore for the development of hospitals under the NSS management. The functioning of the newly formed Human Resource Development Department is expected to be expanded during the period. In addition to starting 30 new centres under the department, the budget provides for expansion of the pre-marital counselling programme, coaching centres for PSC examinations, and commencement of de-addiction centres. The social service department would expand its functioning with the formation of 5,000 additional women's self-help groups (SHGs), taking the total number to 20,000. The micro-financing initiative for women's empowerment is expected to generate Rs.500 crore credit facility this year. The micro-financing programme would be expanded to cover SHGs with men as members.
