VISAKHAPATNAM: The Railway Zone Sadhana Committee has decided to intensify the agitation seeking a separate zone with Visakhapatnam as headquarters. Committee leaders met at the CPI office here on Saturday and decided to hold ‘padayatras' in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts on July 9 and follow it up with ‘rail yatras' from Palasa to Visakhapatnam and Parvathipuram to Visakhapatnam and conduct awareness programmes at the stations en route on the need for a separate zone. The meeting also decided to hold a massive rally in the city next month with the participation of leaders from different political parties. Committee convener J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy, members Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar (TDP), P.V.N. Madhav (BJP), Venu Gopal (Lok Satta), and retired railway employee Rama Rao were among those who attended. The committee leaders also met Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development D. Purandeswari and apprised her of the problems of the local people and the injustice being done to Waltair Division by the East Coast Railway authorities in Bhubaneswar.
