KAKINADA: The two-day ‘Inspire awards exhibition' was inaugurated by Minister for Stamps and Registrations Thota Narasimham at P. R. Government High School here on Saturday. The models designed by students based on general science were put on display and the awarding winning models at the district-level would be sent to the State-level competition. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Narasimham congratulated the children who had come out with models on street lighting system and water tank with auto control system. He said that the government was keen on encouraging children towards scientific research, for which it launched several programmes for the high school children. “Under the Inspire scheme, the government is presenting Rs. 5,000 each to students who designed models with novel ideas. Similarly fellowship is being provided to students who won Inspire awards at the national level for three years continuously,” he said. He wanted the students from the district to win prizes at the State and the national levels. In all, 1,770 students were participating in the competition at the district-level and similar exhibitions were being organised at Pithapuram, Amalapuram and Rajahmundry by the department of School Education. City MLA D. Chandrasekhar Reddy, MLC George Victor and officials were present.
