No amenities for unauthorised layouts, says Ponnuraj

Shimoga: Deputy Commissioner V. Ponnuraj has instructed the officials to initiate legal proceedings against gram panchayat of Nidige for encroachment of the tank and conversion of the adjacent land into housing sites.

He was speaking at a meeting convened on Saturday to discuss the initiatives to be taken to prevent construction of unauthorised layouts in the city.

The existing laws are flouted while converting the agriculture land into layouts. Similar violations are reported from New Mandli, Urgadur and Soolebailu areas also.

He instructed the officials to acquire the agriculture land converted for commercial and residential purposes in an illegal fashion, barring those on which houses are already constructed.

Availing permission from the concerned Urban Development Authority is mandatory for registration of sites in the city limits.

It will be difficult to provide civic amenities like roads, drainage, and drinking water supply for the unauthorised layouts. He instructed the village accountants and revenue inspectors working in villages around the city to take necessary precautions to avoid construction of unauthorised layouts.

He clarified that facilities such as drinking water supply, electricity connection and drainage will not be provided for the existing unauthorised layouts.

President of City Municipal Council K.S. Gangadharappa, Additional Deputy Commissioner M.K. Srirangaiah, Commissioner of Shimoga Urban Development Authority Sadashivappa and Assistant Commissioner M.L. Vaishali were present at the meeting.
