Call to amend outdated laws

Staff Reporter

KOTTAYAM: Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has called for immediate steps to amend the outdated laws, some of which were enacted during the British regime, and bring about necessary modifications in the Acts to meet the changing needs of the country's democratic and social system.

He was speaking during a function organised by the Kottayam Bar Association here on Saturday.

Mr. Radhakrishnan opined that some of the existing laws were no longer of any use to the citizens of the country. Moreover, there were laws like the Indian Evidence Act (enacted in 1872) that should be reviewed and modified in such a way that it suited the existing circumstances, he said.
