Students of SVS schools steal the limelight

Correspondent

46 students of these schools figure in top hundred

CUTTACK: Continuing their supremacy in matriculation examination results, schools run by Sikhya Vikash Samiti (SVS) namely Saraswati Vidyamandirs have shown their dominance yet again this year as 46 students of these schools have cemented their positions in the top-hundred list of successful students.

Encouraged by outstanding performances consistently for over a decade now, all the Saraswati Vidya Mandirs (schools) run by the Samiti now aim to achieve 100 percent results in annual matriculation examinations by next year.

“We would also like to see more and more students of our schools are in the top 100 list of the High School Certificate (HSC) examinations,” asserted an executive member of SVS here.

Established in 1956, the SVS now has nearly 600 Sishu Mandirs and Vidya Mandirs, including three residential and seven tribal schools called “Bana Vidyalayas” across the State with combined student strength of nearly two lakhs.

Dedicated teachers

About 9,000 dedicated teachers impart an integrated education in these schools with sincere commitment despite paltry remuneration ranging between Rs 500 and Rs 3,000. But this has not deterred the SVS schools from getting a phenomenal success in matriculation and other board examinations.

This year, 120 high schools of the samiti were given recognition by the State Board of Secondary Education for the matriculation examination. The SVS schools have recorded almost 98 pass percentage while the overall State-wide pass percentage was only 66.75 per cent.

The unmatched performances of Saraswati Sishu Mandir students came to limelight in 1997 when one of its students surprised the entire State by securing the top rank in 1997 HSC examinations. Since then, the SVS students continued to book berths in the toppers' list. In 2010, out of the 22 top 10 rank holders, 12 were from SVS schools while another seven were former SVS students.

This year too, out of 24 students in top 10 ranks, at least 14 students are from SVS schools and four are former students of these schools.
