Correspondent

YSR Congress activists burn government effigy

VIZIANAGARAM: The Bharateeya Janata Party, YSR congress, CPI (M) and TDP on Saturday demanded the UPA Government to withdraw the enhanced prices of diesel, kerosene and LPG.

Barring TDP, leaders of the three political parties staged dharnas and rasta-rokos at RTC Complex here on Saturday. P. Sanyasi Raju, BJP district president, ridiculed the Centre for effecting price rise at a time when the price of crude oil in the international market dropped.

YSR Congress party cadres led by the district convenor P. Sambasiva Raju organised rasta-roko and burnt the effigy of the UPA Government.

The CPI (M) blocked roads for about 15 minutes at the RTC Complex and criticised the government for burdening the common man further.

TDP district general secretary I.V.P. Raju at a press conference said that the recent increase in prices of fuel was the 9 {+t} {+h} in the last two years and demanded the government to withdraw the hiked tariff.

Frequent increase

KAKINADA: Registering their protest against the recent increase in the prices of diesel, kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas, activists of the Left parties staged a dharna in front of the Collector's office here on Saturday and burnt the effigy of the UPA government.

Raising slogans against the frequent increase in oil prices, the activists squatted on the road in front of the Collectorate.

Terming the government as anti-poor, they demanded that the hike should be withdrawn with immediate effect. Activists of the CPI (ML) New Democracy, AIKMS, IFTU and POW participated in the agitation.
