Drug-induced deaths on the rise

VISAKHAPATNAM: The number of drug-induced deaths is on the rise and is second only to the deaths on the roads. 7.5 crore drug addicts are loosing their health and India has been identified by the UN as a country for deaths due to illicit drugs. This was stated by a senior physician and Padma Sri award winner Kutikuppala Surya Rao at a seminar on global action for healthy communities without drugs, organised by GITAM University here on Saturday. GITAM University, the AP Drugs Control Administration, the Green Valley Foundation, the Prohibition and Excise Department and Lions International organised the seminar. Vice-Chancellor G. Subramanyam, Drugs Control Administration's Assistant Director Ravi Uday Bhaskar, President of the Green Valley Foundation Umaraj andDirector (HR) of Eisai Pharmaceutical S.K. Saini participated in the seminar.
