Water released to Krishna eastern delta

VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu and Pedana MLA Jogi Ramesh jointly flipped the switch to raise the shutters for releasing water from Prakasam Barrage into the Krishna eastern main canal on Saturday.

The MLAs along with other Congress leaders performed puja and offered flowers to Krishnaveni to bestow prosperity to the farmers of Krishna delta.

Vijayawada Irrigation Circle superintending engineer P.V.S.M.S.Sai said 500 cusecs of water would be released into the Krishna eastern main canal to begin with and slowly the discharge would be increased depending on the inflows.

Mr Sai said there was a copious amount of water available in the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir and the authorities were ready to release the same as required by the farmers of Krishna Delta.

Congress leaders Kolanukonda Sivaji and Naraharisetti Narasimha Rao and officials of the irrigation department were present.
