MADURAI: The first interactive meeting of ‘Madurai Mission,' organised by ‘The Hindu' in association with Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Saturday, churned out an idea of formation of a forum to preserve and conserve water sources of Madurai. S. Chandran of Thiagarajar College of Engineering, who mooted the idea, presented an overview of the water sources of Madurai in the past, present and future. Dr. Chandran highlighted the need for action to preserve the water sources for future generations. The senior president of Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, S. Rethinavelu, endorsed the view. The participants represented a crosssection of Madurai population, who included experts in water resources and representatives of residents' welfare organisations and voluntary agencies. The queries raised by them related to both micro and macro issues and well received by officials from Madurai Corporation. The officials gave an assurance to support the forum. N. Jegadeesan, chamber president, proposed a vote of thanks.
