Mass appeal: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP chief Mayawati waves at supporters at a meeting in Hyderabad on Saturday. — HYDERABAD: Taking a leaf out of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) book, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has promised to make a Scheduled Caste man Chief Minister of Telangana if and when the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) formed a government. TRS commitment It may be recalled that the TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao has already committed himself to making a Scheduled Caste man Chief Minister and a Muslim Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana State. Addressing a meeting of BSP workers here on Saturday, she said she was prompted to make the promise because Telangana had a large population of weaker sections and SCs constituted the lowest rung. She recalled in this context that it was the BSP government led by her that carved out Uttarakhand from Uttar Pradesh. Moreover, BSP subscribed to the ideology of B.R. Ambedkar favouring smaller States. Ms. Mayawati blamed the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for not conceding the demand of separate Telangana as they did not want uplift of weaker sections. They also did not want backwardness of the region to go. Call for dharna She asked the State committee of BSP to shortly organise a one-day dharna in all districts against hike in prices of petrol, diesel, LPG and kerosene.
