BANGALORE: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will commence Big Connect, its feeder service, on 19 routes from Sunday on an experimental basis for three months. Its continuation thereafter will depend on the response. Following a commitment given to the Karnataka High Court to operate feeder services from July 1, BMTC will operate the services on 19 routes as against 21 originally proposed. It could not start operations on two routes because of bad roads, the BMTC said in a press release. Seventy buses will be deployed for the feeder service, a long-pending demand of Bangaloreans to address the first- and last-mile connectivity. As of now, BMTC will not distinguish these services by differently coloured coaches and will take a decision after the trial operations, said a BMTC official. Though BMTC had contemplated a single-ticket system (originating point to destination), it could not be implemented immediately for want of electronic ticketing machines. Passengers will pay regular fares; bus passes are also accepted.
